Office of the Administration for Children & Families’ Birth to 5: Watch Me Thrive!

This campaign, supported by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, is a coordinated federal effort to encourage healthy child development, universal developmental and behavioral screening for children, and support for the families and providers who care for them. Reach Out and Read

This is an evidence-based nonprofit organization of medical providers who promote early literacy and school readiness in pediatric exam rooms nationwide by integrating children’s books and advice to parents about the importance of reading aloud into well-child visits. Reach Out and Read builds on the unique relationship between parents and medical providers to develop critical early reading skills in children, beginning in infancy. Child Health & Development Interactive System (CHADIS)

CHADIS.com is an online questionnaire delivery system that is designed to improve the quality of care clinicians give to parents and their families. By the very nature of its comprehensive approach to pre-visit questionnaires, CHADIS arms clinicians with the substantial foreknowledge for the visit and resources for follow-up after the visit, which allows you to provide exemplary care to your patients. CHADIS automates and tracks details of a patient visit, which allows clinicians to receive reporting on myriad questionnaire results, even creating specific patient registries customized by diagnosis. CHADIS reduces costs through its automation of many routine tasks within your practice. By doing these tasks by hand in the waiting room, in the middle of the busy practice day, it increases the time and operating costs for your practice. I have also attached our brochure so that you are able to review additional details about CHADIS.

How does CHADIS work? CHADIS delivers the doctor’s pre-selected questionnaires and families complete them online at home or in the waiting room. Then the system collects all the answers, and automatically scores and tabulates them in a user-friendly electronic worksheet. CHADIS presents provisional diagnoses and links to decision-support information based on the responses. CHADIS selects informational handouts and community resources specific to the child and family needs, in addition to capturing clinician comments and information during the office visit. CHADIS stores all visit data, creating a full record that can be copied into EMRs for referrals, billing, positive screen registry and patient diagnoses tracking.

Ages & Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) and Ages & Stages Questionnaire: Social Emotional (ASQ:SE)

The parent-completed Ages & Stages Questionnaires, Third Edition (ASQ-3) is an accurate, family-friendly way to screen children for developmental delays between one month and 5½ years, without any gaps between the questionnaire age intervals. Recommended by top organizations such as the American Academy of Neurology, First Signs, and The Child Neurology Society*, ASQ-3 is highly valid and reliable. Questionnaires are available in English or Spanish, and come with learning activities for each interval of the assessment.

Early identification of social-emotional problems is crucial, as more and more children are experiencing poverty and other risk factors for depression, anxiety, and antisocial behavior. With Ages & Stages Questionnaires: Social-Emotional (ASQ: SE), a highly reliable, parent-completed tool with a deep, exclusive focus on children’s social and emotional development, you can quickly pinpoint behaviors of concern and identify any need for further assessment or ongoing monitoring.

ASQ-PTI is an online tool for pediatricians, in addition to other electronic services available. Both the ASQ-3 and ASQ: SE are part of Patient Tools (PTI), an electronic patient interview system that makes it easy for parents to complete automated online questionnaires at home pre-visit or in your waiting room with a friendly survey unit or tablet or computer in kiosk mode.

Parents’ Evaluation of Developmental Status (PEDS)

The PEDS tool is an evidence-based screen that elicits and addresses parents’ concerns about children’s language, motor, self-help, early academic skills, behavior and social-emotional/mental health. PEDS tells you when parents’ concerns suggest problems requiring referral and which concerns are best responded to with advice or reassurance. This tool can be used from birth to 8 years of age (7 years-11 months).

The PEDS Online is a fully automated set of Internet-based tools for administering screens that detect and monitor development, behavior, social and emotional/mental health status, which includes PEDS, PEDS: Developmental Milestones and the M-CHAT (English and Spanish). This service provides real-time (immediate) automated scoring, automatically generates detailed reports for printing and/or EMR/EHR integration, and ICD-9/procedure codes for optimal billing. Additionally, it also offers a Patient/Parent Portal for pre-appointment completion of screens, includes take-home parent summary reports in English and Spanish, and can be used with or without electronic medical records.
